Andy was fine and acting normal all day yesterday. He had his dinner and normal insulin and we all went to bed as usual. About midnight, he started having trouble breathing and threw up. I checked his BG and it was around 300 so running high not low. We took him to ER where they ran x-rays, gave sub-q fluids, a shot of antibiotic and something for nausea. I have been up all night, he is no better this morning. He is refusing food and still seems to have trouble breathing. I only gave him 2 units of insulin. His BG this morning was 235. We are waiting until 8 for his Vet to open. He acts funny, like he might be in pain. I am pretty scared right now. Also he was running a fever in ER last night. Could he possibly gotten into something he shouldn't have? Could Andy possibly gotten a tick bite?... even weeks/month ago? A couple indicators of Ehrilichiosis is fever and labored breathing pale gums among other possibles that's I don't recall at the moment. You don't need to see a tick.... often this can be transmitted by the teenie-tiny guys that get on/feed/ and fall off without ever seeing them...at least that's what I recall reading. So sorry, you have been through so much. Let us know after vet appt!!!!!! Kay....Bo..Black miniature schnauzer.. 1995-2007..Diabetes & IBD. Emma 6 years non-diabetic. S/P mini schnauzer . Nick, my grand dog. 11 yrs old. Mini Schnauzer. Diabetic since May 2008. NPH Insulin 5 units twice per day. Weighs 20 lbs. Food: Blue Holistic dry with canned twice per day.

I took Andy to his regular Vet this morning and they wanted me to get him over to his internist and the hospital asap. His oxygen capacity was down to about 60% and he was in a life threatening situation. Doctor said he could suffer sudden death, go now. Did I not just drop $500 at an ER? I left and went directly over and spent the next three hours there talking to them and making plans. They are keeping him in an oxygen chamber. They need to find out what happened. If it is a pulmonary embolism then the doctor said he could have those repeatedly and I would need to make a decision about his quality of life not to mention the ongoing huge expense. It could be pneumonia. There is a mass of some sort pushing over his trachea. Could be fluid, not sure yet. He is getting a complete cardiology workup and IV fluids and meds and such. I know I am probably not making much sense. I can not stop crying......more later. How could I bring him this far just to lose him? Damnit, just damnit!
