Some of you may remember my niece, Melissa, who almost died a few years ago. She's pregnant with a little girl and she was doing really well. She planned the pregnancy after discussing very thoroughly with both her obstetrician and her Crohn's specialist. Then she got the H1N1 flu. She made it through the "flu" portion but the secondary cough is taking a big toll on her. She was in the hospital last week for what they believe is a broken rib from coughing so hard but without xrays they can't be sure. Baby Caroline has already dropped so we're concerned about an early delivery. Melissa is due December 1st so she has about six weeks to go.
Melissa's twin sister, Kate, is also pregnant with #3 (her third boy!) and has placenta previa. She started bleeding last week and ultrasound showed the placenta is starting to tear away from the wall of the uterus and is causing a reduction of blood flow through the umbilical cord. Baby Boy is weighing in very small (about 2 lbs right now) and they're concerned about brain damage if this continues. She was put on immediate bed rest and they will determine next week if she needs to deliver early. Kate is due Christmas Eve so she has about 10 weeks to go.
Any prayers that you all might be able to send their way would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
