My question is stupid. But I am don't have any other ideas. All the dogs escpially Jumper are itching. They don't have fleas. Could they have mites?
How do I tell? How do I treat? Will flea drops kill it? Poor Jumper is miserable. They are on the same diet food they have been on for 2 years. So no food
changes. Any ideas?

First of all, there are no stupid questions here. It sounds like some type of allergic reaction to something. Any different plants in the yard? Anything new floor coverings or furniture in the house? Is this a particularly bad year for pollen in your area?
Sissy was a 15 1/2 year old Lhasa Apso. She was diagnosed with diabetes on September 21, 2007. She went to the Rainbow Bridge and received her wings on

No main pollens are worse this year then any other year. I have hard wood floors with area carpets in the bedroom and living. All of the dogs love to rub the
belly on the carpet. I have given Jumper antihistimanes and they don't help until I get huge dose. I do mean HUGE DOSE. They are on a food that is single
protien, single carb. And they have been on it for along time.

Janice, I'd have a scraping done and check for mites. However, having said that if it is the sarcoptic mite it doesn't always show up( it's very evasive little micro-beastie) but a 'simple' test you can even do at home called the pinna/pedal reflex test is usually a good indicator. While dog is standing, scratch the outter edge of the ear... if the hind leg goes into a reflex of 'tapping/pedaling' most likely the sarcoptic mite is there. At the following link if you scrool down there is a video that show what this test is: ( BTW this is what Missy had) and another "BTW.. these are contagious even to humans though It was a long long time before hubby or I got it in spite of constant contact with Missy BUT we eventually DID contact mild case. http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/mites.html Then there is the dermodex mite.. more common and more readily seen.
Terry ( Angel Missy- was diabetic) ,and my rescues, Naddie and Quincy ( non-diabetic)

I tried the massage, fully expecting a reaction. And got none. But she loved the ear massage. I did take a look at web site and it seems just like her. I think
I will have them treat just like it is,
