Not sure if this is crazy or not... |

Hello, I got a new puppy a few weeks ago. He is very heathy and a good boy. On Saturday my Mom was visiting and was playing with him. He got wild and bit her
arm instead of his toy. The bite was unintentional but it was a puncture wound never the less. She cleaned it and put antibacterial cream on the bite right
after it happened. He had his first rabies shot a few weeks ago. I told my vet about it and she gave me the party line about rabies, human shots, time frames.
She also said if my Mother went to the doctors if it got infected the puppy would be quarantined and she would have to get the shots. She also said giving the
shots to a 82 year woman would not be a good thing. The puppy is completely healthy and extremely sweet. I have no indications in any way that he is sick. But
apparently rabies can have a long incubation period. I called my mother to see how the bite was and she had forgotten it even happened. No pain, swelling. I
feel like I am being paranoid...certainly people are bitten by sharp little puppy teeth all of the time. But should I encourage my Mom to go to the doctor? Any
thoughts?

My hands are full of little puppy teeth holes - and Fritz hasn't even had his rabies shot yet. If Douglas had his shot, why is the vet worried? If it was
me, I would forget it. JMO

Thanks for the reassurance. I don't think the vet was worried but since I brought up the topic, she had to respond to me as per the law. The laws around
here are pretty strict. She certainly didn't freak and tell me I had to get my mom started on the shots right away. But she also didn't say don't
worry about it since his rabies shot will not kick in for awhile. So, in these types of situations, my imagination makes up the rest. Sounds like you and Fritz
are having lots of fun! I forgot how much fun (and exhausting) puppies can be!

I'm going to try to post a new picture of Fritz tomorrow. You need to post a picture of Douglas or do you call him Doug?

I'm excited to see the new picture!!! I've taken to calling him Dougie. He's just too cute. When he is picking on Foxy I call him Douglas....but
overall Foxy has been a really good sport and teacher. I want to post some pictures of Douglas too. He just keeps changing and growing up so the pictures
quickly become old.

I honestly have had more puppy-punctures than you could count over the years. I'm sure your little guy is perfectly healthy and 'rabies-free' so no
concern that there is any issue.

I wouldn't worry about it either.
It does seem I have heard that domestic rabies is very low anymore......it's more the 'wild' animals we have to be concerned about. Yes, I want to see pictures!! He sounds adorable. Cindy and Nash |

Yes, I am anxious to see the pictures too! Sounds so cute....
I will always have a "permanent" reminder of my sweet angel Bud on my forearm....given to me at 10 weeks old when we first tried to clip his nails. The scar is a reminder of sharp teeth...and his tenacious terrier spirit! (: No problems, it healed nicely. I smile when I see it now..... Blessings, and congrats on the new addition to the family! I think most of us look like pin cushions when we have a new pup! Cindy is right - the incidence of rabies amongst domestic animals is pretty much zero in
North America.
Pictures! We need pictures!

This was clearly a case of paranoia on my part! Thanks for bringing me back to earth. I am going to try to post a picture of Douglas in the petporri section so
you can all see the vicious little guy.

So Judy, Bud left you with a little Tattoo of himself. When I read this, I smiled and then got kinda jealous.
That really is so awesome.
