Ella's been taking it for about 5 days now. Full dose for her weight is 4 tabs but we're only up to 2. She has a really sensitive stomach so I don't dare go higher for another few days. She's still on "Dog Gone Pain" which includes an ingredient with aspirin-like quality and it really works well for her. She's been taking it for about a year now.

She was already getting 900mgs of glucosamine/chondroitan every day so I'm hoping the new supplement will replace both the Dog Gone Pain and the glucosamine. The new supplement contains an equal amount of glucosamine and the extra vitamins are a bonus so that's what I decided to try it. They must taste pretty good - Ella eats them like treats - I don't even need to hide them in something tasty.

Ella also gets Adequan shots monthly. So far, so good. She's doing really well considering her x-rays show a whole lot of arthritis especially in her leg joints. She'll be 12 in May and is still really energetic. Between her attitude (whoopee! Life is great!) and the supplements and Adequan, I think she's doing great.

I'll keep you posted! Don't know if this company has a human rendition of the product, though.

Terry, I just read through the Mayo Clinic links and noticed that both glucosamine and chondroitan both contain warnings about shellfish allergies. The glucosamine warning seems a little less likely but still a concern.

And both also advise caution in people with asthma. Just something else I didn't know.

And the suggested dose seems to be much more than I've been giving Ella. Our holistic vet said to give her the full human adult dose so I'll phone him tomorrow to double-check. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, Carolyn! I'll check it out, too. I'm just as creaky as the dogs these days! It's funny - the woman who runs the local health store keeps it in stock for animals and twice now she's told me she wishes it came in a human formulation! I'll have to tell her to check with her supplier.

I've been giving both dogs Recovery SA and Dog Gone Pain. The DGP container says something like "Dogs love the taste!" but both my dogs hate the taste. The label on the Recovery bottle doesn't say anything about how it tastes but both the dogs love it.
For the first bottle, I bought it in tablet form because I assumed I'd need to hide it in food. But since they both like it, I'm buying the powdered version and stir it into their regular meals. It's cheaper and lasts longer than the tablets.

If you buy the human version for yourself, let us know if it works for you!
