She runs a no kill cat shelter here. It is wonderful. and I totally support it. However, she was telling me about a cat they have there and he is diabetic. He is followed by a vet but she told me they use Vetsulin. I thought cats used a different insulin. I know I use Novalin for my dog.. I know about dogs (have 2)but I haven't learned much about feline diabetes.

I know enough to tell her to get him on a canned diet, as much meat as possible, less grains.

His bg was over 500, no UTI but he had a broken tooth so they kept him and did a dental on him right away.

And blood glucose numbers are "normal".

he is on Humulin U and has been since the first week of August.

his dose was very gradually increased and curves were done, and his vet decided that since his BG drops rapidly and sharply after each shot, but he only gets 6hrs of duration out of each shot, he needs three shots a day.


many many people advised against this, but my vet made a strong case and i went with his advice.
